Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans by Joanne DeMaio
Bit confusing at the beginning where the characters are introduced as to what they do in the present day with tidbits of information about their past life-the summers they were all together.
After that it's easy to keep them straight and I love the book because of the feeling the salt air on my skin calms me.
Maris just buried her father and cleaned out his house and needs to go back to work in Chicago as a denim designer and Scott her intended. She watches some of the dvd's from the old 8mm movies and photos and discovers she may have a sister.
With the kids, Evan and Hailey and her laid back chef of a husband, Lauren is a painter and works part time and will rent a house on the water for many weeks in the summer and Kevin's not invited.
Jason Barlow is redoing the barn where he hopes to set up his architecture studio and with the pain from his prosthesis on his leg along with starting to remember the tragedy of his brothers death.
Eva and Matt are married. She's into real estate, shows houses on commissions. They have the teen Taylor and she's a handful. Her secret is she knows she has a birth mother, somewhere.
Everybody is linked together by Neil, Jason's brother. That one night in the summer when it happened. They all have to do something to get by it now
Love the scapes using paint and the sea things brought to life in various forms in the book.
Also love how the book gives you information as to the accident, the tragedy and it's in the present time also..
I've been putting off finishing this book as I will read for an hour and then do laundry so I can keep in my mind the things I've read mostly about the sea and the shore. I don't want the book to end.

Have you ever read a book that you didn't want to end? This one did that to me, I was about 50 pages from the end and i got sad it was going to end. The characters are real, they have real struggles. My favorite couple had to be Kyle and Lauren.

The story is central though to Maris who is back in town clearing up her father's estate after his passing. She inherits her father's dog, who has taken a liking to her ex-boyfriend. Her best friend has been searching for her birth mother for years almost to obsession. These intersecting stories tell such a vivid story. The seaside town is the perfect backdrop making it a perfect beach read. I highly recommend this book.
I've stated before in my reviews, I judge a book by it's cover, then the title then I read what it is about. I liked the cover and the title of this book and I really liked the story. The characters were well written so you moved through the story with them and felt their emotions. My favorite characters in this particular story were Kyle and Jason, I think of all the characters they were the most dimensional, with Eve being the least fleshed out, but it as a testament to how well this book is written, Neil who was dead at the beginning of the story was so much a part of the other characters' lives that when Jason talked about the day Neil died you had to cry because even though Neil wasn't one of the living characters you were very attached to him based on the tidbits of his life you were given. I always love books with a water setting and this book gives you the beachy descriptions that I enjoy. This was a very good read to me and I look forward to more of Ms. Demaio's books.

A good book for an afternoon at the beach! I loved the characters - a group of friends that either live or summered at Stoney Point Beach with an exception of one who died a few years back. Neil Barlow still makes his presence known though. Eva is looking for her birth parents - still. Kyle and Lauren are having trouble - he's unemployed again, but finds part time work at the local diner and Lauren is unhappy in their marriage. Jason Barlow has moved back to Stoney Point and has survivor's guilt. Maris is in Stoney Point to close her father's house and estate. She'll find more secrets than she wants to and maybe she'll stop running from her life.

A little predictable, maybe. But I chuckled and shed a couple of tears here and there. Blue Jeans and Coffee Beans reminds me of a summer with my old gang.
Such a great book. I enjoyed every minute of it and greedily wished for more. Old friends converge on the beach town and get to renew their friendship and catch up on their lives. The lead character Maris has come back to clean out her father' beach house after his death. She needs the time and space to make some life decisions. She meets Jason who she once cared about. Jason lost his brother in an accident in which he was also injured very badly. Jason just can't get past his brother's death. There are many more characters whose lives have been upset by disturbing circumstances. The twists and turns just keep you hanging on to find out what happens next. It's a real page turner. I recommend it very highly.
Why? I read a review at some time on Laurel Rain's blog - one of the books Joanne DeMaio wrote and I decided to try one. Now this is the second book I have read by this author.

Plot It is set in Stony Point, New England and is the story of three women and three men. Each with their own life challenges at this point in time. Maris keeps taking on then off her engagement ring. Eva longs to know her real birth mother, Lauren doesn't want what she has. Jason is still dealing with grief, Kyle can't seem to make his wife happy and Matt is annoyed by Eva's addictive search for her mother.

What Appeals to me?
It is beautifully written, the seaside is very much present. Yes its a beach read but it is so much more as the characters struggle with their issues. Yet there are strong supportive ties among them. And there is some healing.

And so... There are more books about these characters - at least two, maybe three so I am very keen to continue on and read the next one The Denim Blue Sea.
